The artist
Maria Linnemann was born in 1947 in Amsterdam, Holland, and grew up in England. She developed an early love for English, Scottish and Irish folklore.
She studied conducting, piano and violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
Since 1971 she has lived in Germany, working as a composer, teacher and performer.
She owes her her love for the guitar to the unforgotten guitarist, viola player and artist Martin Nicolai, who was also an excellent composer.
Maria’s travels have taken her around the globe, inspiring over 500 compositions for the guitar. In 2006 she returned to Germany after spending five years teaching in China, to take up her career as a musician once more.
